After watching Michael Vick on tape, it's clear that he's not ready. You had to expect some rust since he hasn't been under center since New Year's Eve of 2006.
Against the Jets, Vick finished 7-of-11 for just 26 yards and an interception. He also rushed seven times for 35 yards and a two-yard TD. But, Vick took some hard hits, suffered four sacks, losing 40 yards in the process, and fumbled once, although he was able to recover it.
"I thought it was great to get him the work," Eagles coach Andy Reid said. "Good to get him in there. I'm sure he'll be sore tomorrow. That's OK. He's got a couple of weeks to recover from it. "I think you all got a chance to see that he still has a little juice in those legs. He turned it on a couple of times."
To me, it looked like Vick was trying to prove to Reid that he could be a West Coast quarterback that kept his eyes downfield when plays were breaking down around him. Needless to say that's not Vick's strength and why he is an awful fit for this offense.
"I was surprised we were able to sack him as many times as we did," said Jets coach Rex Ryan. "We ran a four-man rush and I don't think they did a good job of identifying the fourth guy. Then they started to blitz. Andy is a great guy. He probably knew we wouldn't go a whole game without blitzing."
Despite the rather obvious blemishes, Vick will still be a much better option than Kevin Kolb if Donovan McNabb goes down this season.
