The Phillies Senior RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) team, comprised of 16 to 18-year-old boys, won the championship game in the MLB RBI World Series, held Sunday at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif.

The Phillies defeated last year’s winner, Los Angeles, on a two-run home run in the fifth inning by Anthony Cafagna, who lives in Philadelphia and is a student at the University of Richmond. The final score was 2-1.

Also receiving honors in the RBI World Series were Phillies Senior RBI players Ramon Reyes and Matthew Howard, both from Philadelphia. Reyes received a computer for winning a “Breaking Barriers” essay and Howard won the 60-yard dash held during Workout Day for the second year in the row.

The Major League Baseball-funded RBI program, in its 19th year and sponsored by KPMG, boasts more than 200 leagues in 203 cities worldwide and is designed to keep inner-city youths active in baseball.
