Window on Piazza closed

The Phillies are out of the running for catcher Mike Piazza, according to a story from the Associated Press.

Piazza has apparently whittled his options down to two teams -- the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers.

It makes sense that the 38-year-old would assume a designated hitter role in the American League. There were some out there, however, that believed the Norristown native would be interested in playing for his hometown club to serve as the right-handed bat behind Ryan Howard.
