The Philadelphia Flyers signed goaltender Steve Mason to a one-year contract extension on Monday.
No financial terms were disclosed by the club, but multiple reports state it is for $1.5 million.
Mason was acquired at Wednesday's trade deadline from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for goaltender Michael Leighton and a third-round draft pick in 2015.
"It's definitely something to look forward to and something to be excited for, but I've got to work for it at the same time," said Mason in a media assemblage. "There's no better organization to be in and I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to play in front of the Philadelphia fans. You look at this team, we get everybody back from injuries and it's a great team all around. My goal is to be the best goaltender I can be and in my opinion, that's the #1 goaltender. I know that's going to take a lot of work.
The 24-year-old made his Philly debut in the third period of Saturday's 4-1 loss at Winnipeg.
Mason was due $3.2 million this season before becoming a restricted free agent in July. Prior to the deal, he was 3-6-1 with a 2.95 goals-against average in 13 games for Columbus this season.
