PHILADELPHIA - The San Francisco 49ers officially signed former Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha to a one-year deal on Wednesday.
A four-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowl selection, Asomugha (6-foot-2,
210) has played in 154 games (130 starts) and recorded 417 tackles, 15
interceptions, two sacks, two forced fumbles and 82 passes defensed in
his 10-year NFL career. In 2012, he tallied 59 tackles, one interception
and 12 passes defensed with the Eagles.
“We are very pleased to add Nnamdi to our defense,” said 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke. “Throughout his career, Nnamdi has accomplished a great deal on the field and in the community. We look forward to his contributions to our team and the Bay Area.”
Asomugha was originally selected in the first round (31st overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft by Oakland. He went on to play eight seasons for the Raiders before signing with the Eagles on July 29, 2011. After spending two very disappointing seasons in Philadelphia, Asomugha was released on March 12.
