PHILADELPHIA - Chip Kelly fled the University of Oregon for the NFL and the Philadelphia Eagles months ahead of likely sanctions.
The Oregonian is now reporting that the university has agreed its football coaches committed "at least one major violation" related to the NCAA's ongoing investigation of the school. Oregon and the NCAA disagree, however, on whether the school committed another major violation.
The university released 515 pages of documents to the newspaper on Monday night and is scheduled to appear in front of the NCAA's committee on infractions sometime this year. A final ruling is pending.
Oregon reportedly wants to self-impose a two-year probation for Kelly's former program and a reduction of one scholarship for each of the next three seasons.
Kelly is safe , however, 2,878 miles away in Philadelphia ducking any responsibility for the mess he left behind.
"I am aware of the recent reports and of the ongoing investigation being conducted by the NCAA and the University of Oregon," the coach said in a statement released by the team. "While at Oregon, I know we were fully cooperative with all aspects of the investigation and I will continue to contribute in any way that I can.
"But until the NCAA rules on the matter, I will have no further comment.”
