Phillies prospect Tyson Gillies, who was acquired in the Cliff Lee trade, was arrested early Friday morning in Pinellas County, Fla. on a felony charge of possession of cocaine.
Gillies, 21, was arrested by Pinellas County Sheriff's officers at 1:10 a.m., and was released at 10:52 am. on $2,000 bond.
Gillies was playing for the Phillies' Double-A affiliate in Reading, Pa., but had not played for the R-Phils in two months due to an injured left hamstring. He was in Clearwater on a rehabilitation assignment.
"The Phillies have confirmed that Tyson Gillies was charged today on a drug possession charge arising out of an incident that was alleged to have occurred in June," the team said in a statement. "Because this is an open case, we will not comment further at this time."
