Former WWE wrestler Lance "Cade" McNaught died of heart failure today at the age of 29.
"World Wrestling Entertainment was informed Friday morning by Lance McNaught’s father that he has passed away of apparent heart failure," the company said on its website. "WWE extends its deepest condolences to the McNaught family."
McNaught had serious problems with prescription drug issues during his career and was released by WWE in October 2008 while in the middle of a major program with Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels after an incident on an airplane where he reportedly overdosed on painkillers and went into a seizure.
McNaught was re-signed to a developmental contract late last year and briefly worked with the company's Florida Championship Wrestling affiliate but was released again in April.
McNaught told Pro Wrestling Insider that the company let him go because he asked for help with an addiction to sleeping pills that he began using to deal with pain while getting himself clean.
WWE did send McNaught to rehab and disputed his claim.
