Philadelphia Union will host Chivas de Guadalajara, one of Mexico’s most storied clubs, on Wednesday, September 1 at PPL Park, the club announced today.
Chivas, currently a finalist in the renowned Copa Libertadores championship, is Mexico’s most successful team having won a record 11 titles since the start of the professional era. The team is led by Jonny Magallón on defense, while Adolfo “Bofo” Bautista, Alberto “Venado” Medina and Omar Bravo pace the attack.
Philadelphia Union and Chivas are quite familiar with each other, having played to a 2-2 draw behind goals by Jack McInerney and J.T. Noone in preseason training in Mexico.
“It’s great to finish our international friendlies with a team like Chivas de Guadalajara,” said Philadelphia Union Team Manager Peter Nowak. “Having played against them in preseason, we know they are a tough and well conditioned team and we look forward to hosting them at PPL Park.”
