Temple's Brown named to Paul Hornung Award Watch List

(The Phanatic Magazine) - Temple senior running back Matt Brown is one of 49 players named to the 2012 Paul Hornung Award Watch List, the Louisville Sports Commission announced on Thursday.

Now in its third season, the Paul Hornung Award is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission and football legend Paul Hornung.

"The Paul Hornung Award Watch List for the upcoming season is an impressive group of players who excel at multiple positions to help their teams win, which is how I played the game," Hornung said. "It will be interesting to see which players excel during the season and emerge as the top choices of our Selection Committee."

A two-time All-MAC selection, Brown played in all 13 games with two starts last fall. He finished second to Bernard Pierce in rushing with 916 yards and six touchdowns on 155 carries. Brown was the Owls'  top kickoff returner with 703 yards and a TD on 28 returns and top  punt returner with 182 yards on 18 returns on the season.

Phil Steele has recognized Brown with preseason All-BIG EAST honors are three positions -- second-team at punt returner, third-team at running back, and fourth-team at kickoff returner. 

Brown is also a preseason All-BIG EAST second-team honoree by College Sports Madness at running back and third-team honoree at kick returner.
