The Devil You Know: Flyers make pitch for disgruntled Langenbrunner

According to Anthony SanFilippo of the Delco Times, the Flyers have made a pitch to snag disgruntled veteran forward Jamie Langenbrunner from the New Jersey Devils.

Langenbrunner, team captain for the last five years, is a healthy scratch for Thursday's game against the Flyers at Prudential Center, and has reportedly waived his no-trade clause in anticipation of being traded.

As of Thursday evening, SanFilippo reports that a source told him that Flyers GM Paul Holmgren offered draft picks for the two-time Stanley Cup winner when Devils GM Lou Lamoriello called several days ago to assuage interest.

Working in the Flyers' favor is that Langenbrunner is in the final year of a five-year contract and is due to be an unrestricted free agent come July 1, and also that he has expressed his wish that he remain on the East Coast to play for a contender; working against the Orange and Black is that Lamoriello did not have any further contact with Holmgren since the initial inquiry.

However, the source also indicated that Holmgren has spent his time tonight trying to track down Lamoriello to attempt to make a deal.
