Beauty and the Beast

By John McMullen

Philadelphia, PA - I am the curmudgeonly old guy around The Phanatic.

In WWE terms -- it's like the gimmick Vince McMahon gave me and you can't really cross the boss so I embrace it.

Of course, the reality is far different.

People only seem to remember the negative things I write and that's fine.

When I call Andy Reid a good coach or Allen Iverson one of the best 50 players of all-time, it falls on deaf ears.

When I laud the Eagles draft or gush over Ryan Howard, it gets lost in all the negativity.

So be it...

But, when I took in the Sixers-Wolves game from press row last night with 15 of my closest friends (announced as 13,039 by a Comcast P.R. staff that evidently is in to writing fiction nowadays.), I promised one of them that I would write something positive about the team no matter what.

Well, after another ineffective, uninspired, impotent performance during a 95-84 loss to a bad Minnesota Timberwolves club, the Sixers didn't make it easy for me.

Here's what I came away with.

Maurice Cheeks is a great guy but an awful coach.

Iverson and Chris Webber have gone Glenn Robinson on us and are stealing money.
Andre Iguodala is a world class athlete but his energy level on the defensive end sickens me.

And, Samuel Dalembert has the basketball IQ of a 10-year old.

But, I did come up with one silver lining -- the Sixers in-arena host -- Kathy Romano.

She really is fetching.

So there you go -- something positive at last.
