Young, Sixers stop Bucks

Philadelphia (The Phanatic Magazine) - The Philadelphia 76ers put together their most impressive performance of the season Friday, downing a solid Milwaukee club, 90-79 , in front of 14,557 at Wells Fargo Center.

Thaddeus Young came off the bench to score a season-high 23 points for the Sixers, who snapped an ugly five-game skid and improved to just 2-4 on their home floor. Lou Williams added 19 points and buried a key 3-pointer late as the Bucks were making a last ditch effort to claw their way back in the game.

Jrue Holiday played a solid floor game with 10 points, six rebounds and five assists for Philadelphia, which played without star swingman Andre Iguodala again. Iguodala missed his third straight game, and fifth of the year, with tendinitis in his right Achilles.

Corey Maggette paced Milwaukee with 20 points and six rebounds off the bench while Drew Gooden added 16 points and eight boards for the Bucks, who shot a miserable 33.8 percent from the floor and came up empty from beyond the arc at 0-for-12.

Things very all rosy for the Sixers, however. Elton Brand followed up a season-high 27 points against Toronto on Wednesday by scoring just four points on 1-of-7 shooting. In fact, Brand was so ineffective, Collins started Young for the veteran in the second half.

Meanwhile, Marreese Speights continues to struggle mightily, scoring three points on 1-of-7 from the floor. The Florida product did contribute in other ways, however, snaring a game-high 10 rebounds.

Center Spencer Hawes had one of his most effective games of the season with nine points, seven rebounds and a blocked shot in 25 minutes of action, while rookie Evan Turner was up-and-down, netting eight points on 4-of-6 shooting and a career-high six assists but was benched late after missing an open jumper and compounding that at the defensive end by letting Maggette convert a conventional 3-point play.

The 3-10 Sixers are back in action next Tuesday in Washington.
