CLEVELAND (11/8/10) - Temple r-sophomore QB Mike Gerardi (Parsippany, N.J.) has earned the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor for the East division, the MAC announced on Monday.
In Saturday's 28-10 win over Akron, Gerardi made his third consecutive start at quarterback. In the second quarter, Gerardi put the Owls on the scoreboard with the first rushing TD of his career with a nine-yard run. He finished 21-of-29 for 368 yards and two touchdowns. The 368 yards passing are the most ever by a TU first-year starter at QB, eclipsing Adam DiMichele's record of 322 yards set against Northern Illinois in 2006.
Following the game, Gerardi also earned ESPN Helmet Stickers and was named the Rivals.com National MAC Player of the Week.
In four games, Gerardi is 54-of-81 for 871 yards and eight touchdowns.
The MAC honor is the first of Gerardi's career. This fall seven Owls have been honored by the MAC eight times.
Tied for first place in the MAC East, Temple (8-2, 5-1 MAC) hosts Ohio (7-3, 5-1 MAC) on Tuesday, Nov. 16 in the team's final home game at Lincoln Financial Field. ESPN2 will televise the game nationally, beginning at 8 p.m. The Senior Class will be honored during a pregame ceremony.
