NEW YORK - Former Saint Joseph's players Tasheed Carr, Garrett Williamson and John Bryant were selected in the 2010 NBA D-League Draft on November 1, while Darrin Govens will invited to attend a
team training camp.
Carr, who played at SJU from 2007 to 2009, was the 15th pick in the 3rd round by the Erie (Pa.) BayHawks. A 6-4 guard from Philadelphia, Carr averaged 14.3 points and 4.3 assists his senior season and was a member of the Hawks' most recent NCAA Tournament Team in 2008. The Bayhawks are affiliated with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Toronto Raptors.
Williamson, who finished his SJU career last season, was the 3rd pick of the 4th round by the Austin Toros. The 6-5 guard from Lower Merion, Pa., earned Atlantic 10 All-Defensive honors in 2010 and averaged 12.1 points and 3.9 assists for the Hawks. The Toros are affiliated with the San Antonio Spurs.
Bryant played for the Hawks from 2001 to 2005 and was picked by the Bakersfield (Calif.) Jam with the 5th pick of the 6th round. The 6-7 forward from Woodbridge, Va., was a member of Saint Joseph's teams
which reached the NCAA Elite Eight in 2004 and the NIT championship in 2005. Bakersfield is connected with the Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers.
Govens, who also completed his SJU career in 2010, was invited to attend the training camp of the Reno Bighorns. The 6-1 guard from Chester, Pa., led the Hawks in scoring with 13.9 points per game last
season while tallying 1,360 points during his career. The Bighorns are affiliated with the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings.
Complete rosters for each of the 16 2010-11 NBA D-League teams will be comprised of the players drafted along with returning, affiliated and local tryout players. Rosters will be reduced from 17 players to
opening-day 10-man rosters by Nov. 18 in anticipation of the Nov. 18 tip off of the NBA D-League's 10th season. Each team may play one or multiple preseason game(s) between Nov. 9 and 17.
