Sixers hope to build on first win vs. Cavs

The Philadelphia 76ers hope to build on their first win of the season Friday when they welcome the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Wells Fargo Center.

The Sixers are coming off a 101-75 thrashing of Indiana in Philly on Wednesday in which Elton Brand had game-highs of 25 points and 12 rebounds. Doug Collins was unable to see the conclusion of his first win as Sixers head coach, however. The veteran mentor stayed in the locker room after halftime due to symptoms of vertigo that caused him to miss time during the preseason.

"I had another one of my bouts. I can't take my medicine on days of games because it makes me so tired," explained Collins, who committed to being back on the bench tonight. "I'm happy for our guys. How hard they have worked and to be rewarded with this win."

Associate coach Michael Curry guided the team to the finish, witnessing six players hit double-digits as the Sixers snapped a four-game slide to start the year, which included a tough overtime loss to Washington on Tuesday.

Thaddeus Young netted 16 points, Evan Turner contributed 12, while Andre Iguodala, Jrue Holiday and Lou Williams each had 11 in the resounding win.

The Cavs, meanwhile, lost their third straight game on Tuesday when Marvin Williams scored a team-high 22 points and Al Horford had 16 points and 12 rebounds, as the Atlanta Hawks defeated Cleveland, 100-88, at Quicken Loans Arena.

J.J. Hickson went for a career-high 31 points for the Cavaliers, who have dropped the three straight after defeating Boston in their season-opener.

"Very proud of the way our guys played, especially after the first quarter," Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott said. "I loved the effort that our guys had and we have to continue doing that for the rest of the season."

Mo Williams (groin) played in his first game of the year and scored 12 points off the bench but forward Antawn Jamison missed the contest with a sore knee.

Jamison is questionable for tonight's contest, while Williams is expected to return to the starting lineup in place of Ramon Sessions.

The Sixers have dropped seven consecutive home games to Cleveland, but the Cavs are a far different team now without superstar LeBron James. The last time the Sixers beat Cleveland in the City of Brotherly Love was nearly five years ago on Feb. 22, 2006.
