Temple To Face Western Michigan in First Round of Puerto Rico Tip-Off

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's basketball team will take on Western Michigan in the opening game of the 2011 Puerto Rico Tip-Off on November 17.

The Owls game against the Broncos tips at 10:30 a.m. ET (11:30 a.m. local (Atlantic) time) and will be televised live by ESPNU.

The winner of the Temple-Western Michigan game will play the winner of Purdue-Iona, the second game of the tournament, on Friday, November 18 at 1:00 p.m. ET on ESPNU.  The losers of the first two games will move to the consolation bracket and play at 3:30 p.m.

In the other half of the eight-team bracket, Maryland will take on Alabama (11/17, 5:00 p.m. ET/ESPN2) while Wichita State will battle Colorado (11/17, 7:30 p.m./ESPNU).

The teams will have Saturday off with the final day of competition being held on Sunday, November 20.  All games will be played at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, in the cosmopolitan Hato Rey district of San Juan.

For the fifth straight year, the BIG EAST will serve as the event's sponsoring conference.

Minnesota topped West Virginia 74-70 for the 2010 Puerto Rico Tip-Off title. Other former winners were Villanova in 2009, Xavier in 2008 and Miami (Fla.) in 2007.
