Brain condidtion caused Mike Patterson's seizure

Eagles DT Mike Patterson
Eagles trainer Rick Burkholder confirmed that defensive tackle Mike Patterson, who collapsed at practice on Wednesday and had a scary four minute long seizure, has a “brain AVM,” a congenital tangle of blood vessels in his skull.

Patterson's agent, J.R. Rickert, contradicted that, however, and said it's not official that Patterson has AVM. According to Rickert, one doctor believes Patterson has the brain condition and another does not. If he is suffering from AVM, Patterson will need surgery or radiation to repair the situation.

"Media reports are not accurate," Rickert said in a statement.  "Mike has not yet decided on surgery.  He has not received an official diagnosis of a brain AVR and is continuing to be evaluated by multiple doctors.  Once we know the course of treatment and timetable for recovery, Mike and his wife Bianca will decide how to proceed."

Actually the media reports are extremely accurate and just echoing what Burkholder and the Eagles believe.

After practice today Burkholder also said it would "be foolish to speculate" whether Patterson will be able to return to the NFL at some point.

For now, Patterson will be released from the hospital today and then meet with doctors and undergo further tests to determine the next step in the process.
