Temple announces men's basketball sked

PHILADELPHIA – A minimum of 16 television appearances, including 10 national broadcasts, highlight the 2010-11 Temple University men’s basketball schedule released today. The three-time defending Atlantic 10 Conference champions will play a minimum eight games on ESPN entities and 10 of their 16 league games will be televised. It marks the most regular season national telecasts since the 2001-02 season when Temple made 13 appearances.

The Owls’ games on ESPN entities start with their Old Spice Classic opening round game against California on Thanksgiving night (9:00 p.m.) which will be televised by ESPN2. Temple’s second game of the tournament (Nov. 26), against either Georgia or Notre Dame, will be on either ESPN2 or ESPNU. A 17th televised game may be added to the schedule as three of the four games on the final day of the Orlando tournament (Nov. 28) will be televised by either ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Temple’s remaining ESPN entity games include: Dec. 9 – Georgetown (ESPN/ESPN2); Dec. 29 – at Villanova (ESPN2); Jan. 22 – at Xavier (ESPN/ESPN2); Jan. 29 – at Saint Joseph’s (ESPNU); Feb. 5 – Rhode Island (ESPN/ESPN2); Feb. 12 – at Dayton (ESPNU); Feb. 23 – at Duke (ESPN2).

The Owls also have one other nationally-televised broadcast on their schedule, a Feb. 17 game against Richmond which will be televised by CBS College Sports.

Five of Temple’s A-10 games will be CBS College Sports regional telecasts, starting with the Owls’ conference opener at Fordham on January 5. The remaining CBS CS regional games include: Jan. 15 – at Duquesne; Jan. 26 – Charlotte; Feb. 20 – Saint Joseph’s; Feb. 26 – at George Washington. Temple’s game against Maryland, part of the BB&T Classic, on Sunday, December 5th will be televised regionally on the Fox Sports Network.

Sixteen postseason teams, including defending NCAA champion Duke and NIT champion Dayton, are on Temple’s schedule.  Besides Duke, the schedule features 10 other teams that participated in the 2010 NCAA Tournament (California, Georgetown, Maryland, Notre Dame, Ohio, Richmond, Texas A&M, Villanova, Wisconsin and Xavier). Besides Dayton, Seton Hall and Rhode Island advanced to the 2010 NIT while the slate features two teams (Akron and Saint Louis) that competed in the 2010 CBI.

For the first time since the 2000-01 season Temple will open with consecutive home games at the Liacouras Center. The season opens with a home game against Seton Hall on Nov. 12. The Owls follow that with a home date against Toledo on November 14.
Temple, projected by many media outlets as a Top 25 team in 2010-11, returns three starters from last year’s squad that ended the season 29-6 and ranked 12th in the Associated Press final poll.
