The Philadelphia Freedoms will begin their 10th consecutive season of World  TeamTennis presented by Geico versus Venus Williams and the Washington Kastles  at their new home in the intimate and air-conditioned Pavilion on the campus of  Villanova University on Thursday, July 8 at 7:30 p.m.
The Freedom’s  opening night celebration, sponsored by Beneficial Bank, is highlighted by the  return of Venus Williams who was a member of the 2009 Freedoms roster. Williams,  currently the 4th-ranked women’s tennis player in the world, will also be  promoting her new book “Come to Win” earlier in the day at the Center City  Borders location and will take time prior to the match to teach a clinic for  youth tennis players at Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education in East  Falls.
Also making a Philadelphia-area appearance this season will be  Serena Williams, who won her second consecutive Wimbledon title on July 3. She  makes her triumphant return to Philadelphia from the grass courts of the  All-England Club on Tuesday, July 13 to take on the The four-time Wimbledon  champion will also provide some championship tennis insight to area-youth as she  hosts a clinic for students at the Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square that  afternoon.
Andy Roddick, the 2003 US Open Men’s Singles Champion and  9th-ranked men’s player in the world, makes his debut as a member of the  Freedoms on Thursday, July 15 at 7 p.m. The first 200 fans through the doors of  the Pavilion will receive a Benenficial Bank Tennis Ball.
Other  highlights of the Freedoms home schedule include Philadelphia Inquirer Billie  Jean King Kids Night on Monday, July 12, Girls’ and Guys’ Night Out featuring an  appearance by Anna Kournikova of the St. Louis Aces on Tuesday, July 20, and Fan  Appreciation Night, highlighted by the return of Martina Hingis on Wednesday,  July 21. All matches other than the home opener begin at 7  p.m.

Freedoms  matches at the Pavilion feature world-class tennis in an innovative, fast-paced  World TeamTennis format.  Each evening will include exciting pre-match Block  Parties produced by Comcast Spectacor and featuring USTA Quick Start Tennis,  live music, inflatables, mascots, kids’ games, prizes, food, and much  more.
