Sixers shut down Brand

Well they didn't trade him but the Sixers shut Elton Brand down for the season Thursday.

Brand is expected to have right shoulder surgery as early as Monday.

He originally dislocated the shoulder on Dec. 17 when he hit the floor hard after being upended by Milwaukee's Luc Mbah a Moute.

Brand signed a 5-year, $80 million contract on July 9.

In 29 games, the 6-9 forward averaged 13.8 points and 8.8 rebounds.
