The Philadelphia Eagles today announced they have claimed DT Amon Gordon off waivers from the Tennessee Titans, and have also signed LB Charleston Hughes and S Byron Parker, each to three-year contracts.
Gordon (6-2, 305) was signed to the Titans practice squad midway through the 2008 season and later saw action in the final two games after being promoted to the active roster.
A veteran of five NFL seasons, Gordon has tallied 29 tackles in 13 career games (4 starts) for the Titans (2008), Ravens (2007), Broncos (2006-07), and Browns (2004-05). Originally a fifth round draft choice of Cleveland in 2004, Gordon starred collegiately at Stanford.
A defensive lineman in the Canadian Football League in 2008, Hughes (6-1, 244) recorded 71 tackles and 5 sacks in 18 games (including playoffs) for the Calgary Stampeders.
A linebacker at Division II Northwood University, Hughes tallied 372 tackles and six interceptions in 45 career games from 2003-06, and earned AFCA first team All-America honors as a senior.
A four-year veteran of the CFL, Parker (5-11, 193) was a two-time all-star from 2006-07 with the Toronto Argonauts. He has recorded 18 interceptions over the past three seasons, including six returns for touchdowns. In 2006, Parker’s 348 interception return yards broke a single-season CFL record.
Originally an undrafted free agent of Jacksonville in 2004, Parker was released by the Jaguars in training camp. He signed with the Argonauts in 2005 and appeared in six games during his first stint with the team, before signing with the Dallas Cowboys in 2006. After being released by the Cowboys during training camp of that season, Parker re-signed with the Argonauts and earned a spot as their starting cornerback.
A two-sport star in basketball and football at Tulane, Parker was crowned the 2003 NCAA Slam Dunk Champion after winning a nationally-televised dunk contest held in conjunction with the Final Four. Parker played just one season of college football after joining the team as a walk-on in 2003, and served as a nickel cornerback and special teams contributor.
