Dr. J returns to the Spectrum

Members of both the 1966-67 and 1982-83 Philadelphia 76ers World Championship teams will reunite on the floor of the Wachovia Spectrum, on Friday, March 13, as the Sixers pay tribute to their former home, the Spectrum during their regulation game against the Chicago Bulls at the Wachovia Spectrum at 7 p.m.

The reuniting Sixers include Wali Jones, of the 1966-67 team, and Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Moses Malone, Bobby Jones, Reggie Johnson, Clemon Johnson, Franklin Edwards and Earl Cureton, all from the 1982-83 Championship team. Other alumni will be confirmed shortly.

“We are honored that many of our great alumni from our Championship teams will be with us as we come back to the Wachovia Spectrum for one final game,” said Sixers President Ed Stefanski. “This is going to be a very special night for our players, our alumni and most importantly, our fans.”

“There’s a whole generation of Sixers fans who have never seen the Sixers play in the Spectrum,” said Comcast-Spectacor President Peter Luukko. “This is a great opportunity for Sixers fans who grew up attending games in the Spectrum to bring along their families and celebrate the history of America’s Showplace.”

Tickets for the Sixers Remember the Spectrum game start as low as $19.67 (the year the Spectrum opened) and are on sale now exclusively through ComcastTIX at 1-800-298-4200, ComcastTIX.com or in person at the Wachovia Complex box office. Tickets to the Remember the Spectrum game are also available in a special three-game package which includes tickets to see either the Boston Celtics and the New Orleans Hornets or the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Orlando Magic.

The Sixers are returning to the Wachovia Spectrum for a very special regular season contest against the Bulls, as the club is celebrating the last season of the historic arena. Comcast-Spectacor announced that the Wachovia Spectrum will close and be razed in the fall of 2009.

Demolition of the Spectrum will make way for Philly Live, a spectacular new retail, restaurant, and entertainment district. Cordish Company, of Baltimore, MD, a world-renowned developer of similar projects throughout North America, is partnering with Sixers parent company Comcast-Spectacor in Philly Live.
