Phils place Hamels on DL
The Phillies placed pitcher Cole Hamels on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with left shoulder inflammation.
Hamels underwent an MRI on the shoulder last week after experiencing decreased velocity in a 4-2 loss to the Nationals on August 12. The MRI showed no structural damage, but the Phillies held the southpaw out of his last start as a precautionary measure.
A 2011 NL All-Star selection, Hamels has gone 13-7 with a 2.62 ERA in 25 starts with the Phillies this season. The move is retroactive to August 13 and he is eligible to come off the DL on Sunday, August 28, and is scheduled to start the team's series opener in Cincinnati on August 29.
Pete Orr, who has hit .238 with three RBI in 29 games with the Phillies this season, was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to fill the vacated roster spot.
