Netherlands downs Villanova

The Netherlands Senior National Team used stifling third period defense to pull away from Villanova en route to a 75-63 triumph.

The Wildcats trailed 41-35 at halftime but a 7-0 run sparked by a pair of long triples from guard Rogier Jansen made it 48-35 and the lead never dipped into single digits for the duration of the night.

Juniors Malik Wayns and Mouphtaou Yarou set the scoring pace for the Wildcats, each totaling 15 points.  They were the only two double digit scorers for Villanova.

Robin Smeulder led four double-figure scorers for The Netherlands with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field.

Villanova received contributions from sophomore guard James Bell (nine points, two rebounds) and freshman Markus Kennedy (eight points and three rebounds in just under 23 minutes).
