Eagles' Hunt has torn ACL

PHILADELPHIA - Eagles defensive end Phillip Hunt had surgery today to repair a partial ACL tear in left knee, becoming the fourth Philadelphia player this preseason to succumb to that injury.

Hunt, a former pass rushing star in the CFL, was attempting to make the difficult transition from 4-3 weakside rusher to 3-4 edge player and often looked lost in practice when asked to drop into coverage.

Hunt has played in 22 games with Eagles, recording 3 sacks. He had 19 sacks during two years with Winnipeg in the CFL.

Hunt first reported the knee injury after last Friday's preseason game with New England and did not practice this week.

His absence bolsters the roster prospects of Middle Tennessee product Chris McCoy as well as rookie seventh-round pick Joe Kruger, the younger brother of ex-Ravens star and current Browns LB Paul Kruger.
