LT is MVP! Charger back runs away with honor

Release from The Phanatic

Philadelphia, PA (The Phanatic) - The coronation began sometime around Week 3, and the red carpet rolled with each eye-popping, mouth-dropping run.

LaDainian Tomlinson carried fantasy geeks to the financial promised land. He allowed a young quarterback to develop without big-game pressure and put the San Diego Chargers on his back all season long.

He also broke a few meaningless records -- like an NFL record 31 touchdowns. He took home the rushing title, totaled a career-high 508 receiving yards and finished 2-of-3 for 20 yards and two touchdowns through the air for a 125 QB rating, which is actually below his 152 career rating.

So, we at The Phanatic don't expect him to get excited over this honor, especially with higher accolades and the possibility of a Super Bowl on the horizon.

However, we still offer our congratulations. Not one of our writers went wild and crazy with this selection, though I'm fairly certain John McMullen's original ballot contained the name "Mewelde Moore," and I'm also pretty confident Steve Lienert's ballot had the name "Reggie Brown" crossed out.

Tomlinson is The Phanatic's unanimous NFL MVP Award recipient because, well, he was so much damn better than everybody else.

To put his touchdown accomplishment into proper perspective, Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson finished second with 19 scores, a whole 12 trips to paydirt behind LT.

He flourished against divisional foes -- rushing for 208 yards and SIX touchdowns in two games against Denver, bursting for 240 yards and three scores against Oakland, and torching Kansas City for 199 yards and two more TDs after totaling just 66 yards rushing in the first meeting with the Chiefs.

He now heads into the playoffs with the presumed best team in football, searching for his first Super Bowl championship.

Will he get the ring? That debate is for tomorrow, when The Phanatic unveils its playoff predictions.

Then on Sunday, before you sit down to watch the Birds tackle the Giants, hop on The Phanatic and read our Eagles regular season in review.
