PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's junior Carl Jones has been named the Co-Player of the Week by both the Atlantic 10 Conference and the Philadelphia Big 5, sharing both honors with Ramon Moore of Temple. It marks the second time this season that Jones has earned both awards.
In the Hawks' 2-0 week, which included a win over #19/17 Creighton, Jones averaged 21.0 pts, 4.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals. He shot 47 percent (14-for-30) from the field and 92 percent (12-for-13) from the foul line.
In the 75-68 win over Boston University, Jones had 13 points, five assists and three steals. He surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career in that game, becoming the 49th Hawk to do so and the 17th to accomplish it as a junior.
The 5-11 guard from Garfield Heights, Ohio, scored a game-high 29 points in the 80-71 upset of Creighton, for the Hawks' first win over a ranked team since March 14, 2008. Jones, who scored 20 in the second half, had four rebounds, five assists and three steals in the contest. He shot 9-for-17 from the field and converted 10-of-11 free throws.
Jones tops the Hawks in scoring with 19.4 points per game, while shooting 46.9 percent from the field and 91.0 percent from the foul line.
Saint Joseph's, now 7-3, will host Big 5 rival Villanova on Saturday evening, December 17, at Hagan Arena, marking the first time ever that this game will be held on SJU's campus. The game will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network at 8 p.m. and can be heard on SportsRadio 610 WIP.
