Union's Torres wins Hispanic Choice Award

Chester, Pa. (October 15, 2010) -   Philadelphia Union midfielder Roger Torres beat out Philadelphia Phillies' relief pitcher J.C. Romero and catcher Carlos Ruiz to win the "Best Hispanic Professional Athlete" award at the Hispanic Choice Awards Ceremony held last night at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. The competition recognizes and honors Hispanic individuals, businesses and organizations as chosen by the Latino community of the Greater Region of Philadelphia.

"I'm very flattered to have been recognized by the Hispanic Community with this award," Torres expressed with gratitude after the ceremony. "I want to thank all the fans for believing in me and supporting me every day.  It's truly been an honor to play in Philadelphia."

A creative midfielder, the 19-year-old Torres has notched five assists in 19 games for the Union.  Torres is currently on loan from the Colombian First Division team America de Cali.

Candidates were chosen by the Latino community during a three month long online voting campaign on www.phillyHCA.com in categories such as media personality, government official, night club/bar and visual artist.
