2012 Quarterfinal Round predictions

Let's face it. Your retinas have been burned to a crisp reading the sudden profusion of playoff predictions in the last 24 hours, Flyers-Penguins chief among them.

What I usually offer when it comes to the Steel City doesn't differ much in the way of analysis or originality, so I've decided to sideline it until a real, intriguing matchup comes along -- one where the Flyers haven't battled that opponent ad nauseam and where there are known unknowns and unknown unknowns that need to be dissected.

So, without further comment (and looking over my shoulder for the sneaky possibility of another wild-card entry), here are my picks for the first round:

Eastern Conference
Penguins over Flyers in 6

Rangers over Senators in 7
Bruins over Capitals in 5
Devils over Panthers in 5

Western Conference
Canucks over Kings in 6
Red Wings over Predators in 7
Sharks over Blues in 7
Blackhawks over Coyotes in 6

The hockey department at the Phanatic hopes you enjoy the next two months of playoff action.
