Soul sign QB Brandon Kirsch

PHILADELPHIA (The Phanatic Magazine) - The Philadelphia Soul have signed former Purdue quarterback Brandon Kirsch to be the backup to Ryan Vena.

The signing of Kirsch fills the Soul’s vacancy at quarterback after the team traded Justin Allgood back to the Tulsa Talons this weekend.  Kirsch last played in the Arena Football League for the Colorado Crush in 2007-08, where he completed 12-of-21 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns.

The former Boilermaker completed 292-of-489 passes (59.7%) for 3,532 yards and 23 touchdowns in his four year collegiate career spanning from 2002-05.  Kirsch also added 757 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

“The advantage that Brandon brings is his familiarity with the system, having played under Mike Dailey (head coach) and Netto Purnsley (defensive coordinator) in Colorado,” said Soul Head Coach Mike Hohensee. “He has a lot of potential and hopefully he can come along quickly to help us as we head into a crucial stretch in our schedule.”

Kirsch, a graduate of Cedar Crest High School in Lebanon, PA, joins the Soul as the team prepares to battle the Eastern-Division leading Cleveland Gladiators (5-3) at the Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday.
