Former UFC middleweight champion Evan Tanner was found found dead Monday in the Palo Verde mountain area of California. He was just 37 years old.
Tanner, who had been missing since Friday, recently wrote on his Web site, "I plan on going so deep into the desert than any failure of my equipment could cost me my life."
According to a Sherdog.com, a friend of Tanner's said he had texted Thursday night saying he had run out of water as well as gas for his motorcycle. Area police had been trying to find him since that time and found his body Monday.
Tanner was a high school wrestling state champion in Texas, who eventually downed David Terrell to win the UFC middleweight championship.
He lost the title to Rich Franklin and his last fight was on June 21, a loss to Kendall Grove.
