Chester, Pa. – The Philadelphia Union and broadcast partners 6ABC, Comcast SportsNet and the Comcast Network will again team to televise those Union games that are not shown nationally, the club announced today.
WPVI-TV/6ABC continues in its fourth season as the Union’s official broadcast partner and will air three of the team’s 34 total matches this season, while the April 6th match at Columbus will be shown on the Live Well Network.
Comcast SportsNet and The Comcast Network, now in their third season, will air 20 matches. All matches will be broadcast in high definition.
"We are very excited about our expanding team of broadcast professionals and looking forward to what will be a new look and format to Union broadcasts,” said Philadelphia Union CEO & Operating Partner Nick Sakiewicz. “We've listened to our viewers and have worked very hard in the off season to provide the best possible viewing experience for Union fans.”
Veteran broadcaster JP Dellacamera returns for his fourth season as the Union’s play by play man and will be joined this season by former Philadelphia Union and Venezuelan National Team forward Alejandro Moreno.
Moreno, a Union original, netted 52 goals in 272 appearances over his 10 year Major League Soccer career and won three MLS cups and three Supporters Shields. Born in Venezuela, Moreno earned 41 caps for his National Team, scoring three goals.
“Philadelphia Union is a great partner to 6abc and we’re thrilled to broadcast the 2013 season opener,” says 6abc President & General Manager, Bernie Prazenica. “We’re ready to bring soccer fans in the Delaware Valley another great season of Union Soccer.”
MLS veteran radio and television announcer Tony Limarzi and former Philadelphia KiXX goalkeeper Peter Pappas will host the Union’s 30 minute pre-game show as well as a halftime segment during all home matches. Union Academy Director and former Scottish International Iain Munro is slated to make guest appearances on both the pregame and halftime shows.
“Local soccer fans can once again count on Comcast SportsNet and The Comcast Network to provide unparalleled Philadelphia Union coverage, with 20 high definition games and the return of the “State of the Union’ magazine show,” said Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia President Brian Monihan.
The Union’s weekly magazine show entitled “State of the Union,” which airs bi-weekly on Friday nights on The Comcast Network and Comcast SportsNet returns for its third season. Air times are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on The Comcast Network and 11:30 p.m. on Comcast SportsNet.
