UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -
Pegula Ice Arena, the state-of-the-art, $90 million facility that will
serve as the home to Penn State Hockey, will host its first game Friday,
Oct. 11 when the Penn State men's hockey team opens the 2013-14 season
against the Army Black Knights.
The Friday night contest, which will be
the weekend's lone game, will take place during Penn State's annual
homecoming weekend.
The 2013-14 campaign will mark a historic venture for the Nittany
Lions as they will also begin competition in the Big Ten with
traditional powers Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State and
Wisconsin. Each Big Ten opponent will travel to Happy Valley for two
games apiece for a total of 10 conference home games. Penn State will
also host several non-conference matchups.
The Nittany Lions will close out Greenberg Ice Pavilion, which opened
in January 1981, this weekend with two exhibition games against the
ACHA's Oklahoma Sooners. Penn State will then conclude its inaugural
season with a two-game series at No. 18 Wisconsin Feb. 24-25.
