Warrick trying to organize NBA players for local charity game
PHILADELPHIA - With the NBA lockout dragging on Philadelphia native Hakim Warrick is hoping to organize a charity game featuring NBA players in the area.
According to ESPN, after seeing a smiliar event earlier in Baltimore last week, Warrick approached his former Syracuse teammate Carmello Anthony about playing a Philly-Baltimore game.
Anthony has reportedly agreed, with a date in late September being thrown around with a college option as the likely venue.
"Either Temple, St. Joe’s or the Palestra," Warrick told ESPN. "My first choice is the Palestra, because when you think of Philly, especially Big 5 Basketball and all the history, you think of the Palestra."
Players likely to be involved include the Sixers Lou Williams, along with area-stalwarts like Sacramento’s Tyreke Evans, Orlando’s Jameer Nelson, Detroit’s Richard Hamilton, Houston’s Kyle Lowry, Sacramento’s John Salmons, Minnesota’s Wayne Ellington, and recent first round draft picks Markieff and Marcus Morris.
If Kobe Bryant jumps in, Warrick, a Phoenix Suns forward, might consider the Wells Fargo Center.
