CLEVELAND – Temple junior RB Bernard Pierce earned the season’s first Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for the East division, the MAC announced on Monday.
In Temple’s 42-7 win over Villanova on Thursday, Pierce recorded the 10th 100-yard performance of his career. He finished with 20 carries for 147 yards and three touchdowns.
His three rushing TDs tied his career high. He also had three TDs vs. Miami (2009) and at Toledo (2009).
Pierce is just the third player in Temple history to record 10 games of 100 yards rushing. He stands third in career 100-yard games.
Pierce now has 2,236 career rushing yards to rank No. 5 on the Owls’ all-time list. He is second behind Paul Palmer (1983-86) in rushing touchdowns with 29. Pierce needs just 10 TDs to catch Palmer.
The MAC honor is the fifth of Pierce’s collegiate career and his first this season.
Temple (1-0, 0-0 MAC) opens MAC play at Akron (0-1, 0-0 MAC) on Sept. 10. The game will be televised on ESPN3.com at 6 p.m. from InfoCision Stadium.
