Vikings not interested in Holcomb

Various media reports over the past several weeks have reported that the Minnesota Vikings are interested in Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Kelly Holcomb.

But, those reports are coming directly from Holcomb himself after a Fox Sports reporter asked him about the Vikings.

"You do think about situations like that," Holcomb told Fox about the Minnesota situation. "Every now and again, you hear some rumblings and rumors about that. I think it makes sense. Coach (Brad) Childress was a coordinator in Philadelphia. It is the same offense. Obviously the Eagles just drafted Kevin (Kolb) to go with Donovan (McNabb) and AJ (Feeley). I love the guys in Philadelphia and love the professionalism and Andy Reid and the staff and I'd like to stay. But there is a logjam here and that situation you are describing, with the young talented quarterback in Minnesota, is one I've thought about."

It's not hard to understand why Holcomb would be interested in Minnesota and why a national reporter would see it as a perfect fit. The depth chart reads Tarvaris Jackson, Brooks Bollinger. Drew Henson and Tyler Thigpen in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, universally regarded as the NFL's worst.

But, Vikings coach Brad Childress is hard-headed and enamored with Jackson, a second-year quarterback from Alabama State. He is also very comfortable with Brooks Bollinger as a backup.

That could all change after a couple preseason games but right now Childress doesn't want the pressure of a veteran quarterback with starting experience hampering Jackson's development.
