The Flyers locked up one one of their promising young standouts Friday, signing forward Scottie Upshall to a new two-year contract.

The 23-year-old Upshall, a key part of the Peter Forberg trade, recorded eight goals and eight assists for 16 points and 26 penalty minutes in 32 regular season games for the Flyers and Predators this past season.

"We were very pleased with Scottie's performance after we acquired him midway through last season and we're glad to have him locked up in our organization for the next couple of seasons," said GM Paul Holmgren in making the announcement. "It was a priority for us to get this deal done as soon as possible so we can continue to move forward with our offseason plans."

The sixth overall pick of the 2002 NHL Draft, Upshall has posted 17 goals and 25 assists in 95 career games
