Former Philadelphia Phillies pitching coach Vern Ruhle died Saturday night due to complications from a stem cell transplant.
He was 55 years old.
Ruhle, who was last a pitching coach for Cincinnati, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma -- a cancer of the bone marrow -- back in February.
Ruhle was a pitcher in the majors for Detroit, Houston, Cleveland and the California Angels from 1974-86, and coached for the Houston, Philadelphia, New York Mets and Reds organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Sue, and two children, daughter Rebecca and son Kenny.
