It was ESPN versus SI on Saturday...
First, Michael Silver of SI.com reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers would name Mike Tomlin, defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, as their new head coach.
But...according to ESPN, Silver jumped the gun?
Additional sources also told ESPN.com's John Clayton that the report was incorrect, and the Steelers were not expected to make a decision Saturday.
"We have heard all the rumors, and we have nothing to confirm at this point," Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
But, ESPN finally backed off later in the day and admitted Silver was right all along.
Of course, things didn't end there as the Pittsburgh Tribune Review got into the act. Citing unidentified sources — the newspaper reported that Russ Grimm, the Steelers’ assistant head coach, was the choice rather than Tomlin.Stay tuned...
