Host of Phillies unveil new merchandise line

Friday, during a press conference at a Philadelphia Modell’s sporting goods store, Phillies players Cole Hamels, Raul Ibanez, Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino and Jayson Werth unveiled the Players Choice Signature Series jerseys, T-shirts and caps they designed exclusively for their fans, with each product expressing their unique personalities and attitudes.

The Phillies Players Choice Signature Series jerseys, T-shirts and caps will go on sale Friday at Philadelphia-area Modell’s locations, at the Majestic Clubhouse Store at Citizens Bank Park during this evening’s Phillies game and online at MLB.com.

The players produced the products in a two-month design and manufacturing process with the Major League Baseball Players Association and its apparel licensees, VF/Majestic (Jerseys and T-shirts) and Twins/Banner 47 (Caps).

Players from the New York Mets (Jason Bay, Jeff Francoeur, Johan Santana and Jose Reyes, and Minnesota Twins (J.J. Hardy, Justin Morneau, Joe Nathan, Nick Punto and Kevin Slowey) also designed jerseys, T-shirts and caps as part of the MLBPA’s 2010 Players Choice Signature Series collection.  They will unveil their unique designs as follows:  NY Mets - Wednesday, June 9; Minnesota Twins - Thursday, June 10.  New York Yankees players Joba Chamberlain, Curtis Granderson, Andy Pettitte, C.C. Sabathia, Nick Swisher and Mark Teixeira unveiled their jerseys, T-shirts and caps Wednesday, June 2, during a press conference at Yankee Stadium.

The Signature Series product-line made its debut in 2009, when Mets players designed items for sale in the MLBPA’s Players Choice Clubhouse retail store located at Citi Field.  The overwhelming success of that program led the MLBPA to expand it in 2010
