Eagles sign Upper Darby's Lawrence

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed Upper Darby native Simoni Lawrence.

A rookie free agent linebacker out of Minnesota, Lawrence (6-0, 232) originally signed with the St. Louis Rams following the 2010 draft, but was released on May 25. He recorded 151 tackles, six sacks and two interceptions in his two-year career at Minnesota, adding two touchdowns (one interception return, one fumble return). A defensive co-captain for the Gophers, Lawrence earned honorable-mention All-Big Ten honors as a senior in 2009 after ranking fourth on the team with 85 tackles and contributing two sacks, one interception and one forced fumble.

Prior to attending Minnesota, Lawrence played two seasons at Valley Forge Military Academy, where he was twice named the Seaboard Football Conference Player of the Year and helped the Cadets win back-to-back conference titles.

Lawrence attended Upper Darby High School, where he earned all-state honors as a running back.
