Flyers 2010-11 schedule released

The defending Eastern Conference Champion Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they will open their 44th season in the National Hockey League at Pittsburgh when they face off against their Atlantic Division
and intra-state rival Penguins on Thursday, October 7. The Flyers will also make their 2010-11 regular season debut at the Wachovia Center against the Colorado Avalanche on Monday, October 11.

The 82-game regular season will conclude at home for the Flyers on Saturday, April 9 when they face off against the New York Islanders.

"We're anxious to get the season started," said Comcast-Spectacor President Peter Luukko. "We had an incredible post-season run and we want to capitalize on that momentum next season. We look forward to
dropping the puck in Pittsburgh and beginning the 2010-11 season on October 7th."

The NHL's Board of Governors approved a scheduling matrix which ensures that each Club will play every other Club a minimum of once per season for the third consecutive year in the 2010-11 season.

The NHL regular season schedule format still sees each Club play the teams in its own division a total of six times (three times at home; three times on the road) and a total of 24 division matchups. The Flyers
compete in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference along with the New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins. The Flyers posted a 14-9-1 record against teams in
the Atlantic Division in 2009-10.

The Flyers will also face off in four games (twice at home; twice on the road) against the remaining 10 non-division teams in the Eastern Conference, which consist of the five teams in the Northeast Division
(Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs) and five teams in the Southeast Division (Atlanta Thrashers, Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Washington Capitals), bringing the total number of games in the Eastern Conference to 64 games. In 2009-10, the Flyers posted a 9-9-2 record against the Northeast Division, a 10-10-0 record against the Southeast Division and a 33-28-3 record against their Eastern Conference opponents.

In addition to their Eastern Conference slate, the Flyers will play their remaining 18 games against opponents in the Western Conference with each Club playing the other conference team at least once, home or away. This also includes three remaining games designated as "at-large" games in which the Flyers will play three opponents in the Western Conference both home and on the road. The Anaheim Ducks, Dallas Stars
and Los Angeles Kings are the three "at-large" opponents the Flyers will face off against. The Flyers posted an 8-7-3 against Western Conference opponents in 2009-10.

The following is a breakdown of the Flyers' home games by days of the week: Saturday - 20, Thursday - 19, Tuesday - 15, Sunday - 10, Friday - 7, Monday - 6 and Wednesday - 5. The Flyers 41-game home schedule will feature seven regular season afternoon games.

The Flyers will host their longest homestand of the season beginning with their home opener on Oct. 11 through Oct. 23, a 13-day span in which they will face the Colorado Avalanche, Tampa Bay Lightning,
Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The team's longest road trip of the season comes when they make way for the winter Disney on Ice presents Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 3 show at the Wachovia Center from December 23 though January 2. The Flyers will hit the road for five games during that 10-day span from December 28 through January 6, where they will visit Vancouver, Los Angeles, Anaheim, Detroit and New Jersey.

The television and radio schedule for the Flyers' 2010-11 regular season games will be announced at a later date.
