I have to admit I was a little disheartened at the Wachovia Center tonight.
And it wasn't the Sixers perimeter defense or inability to make the most
elementary of jumpers that got me down this time.
It was the 20,484 in attendance, who cheered LeBron James' every move like
teenage girls at a Jonas Brothers concert.
Usually, I subscribe to the theory that "if you have pay your money to get
into the building, you should be able to boo or cheer whomever you want."
And you might use that to explain why a select few Phillies fans booed the
world champs in the home opener. As ridiculous is that is, I can write it off.
It is Philadelphia after all.
What I can't take is the frontrunners. and there are a TON in this city.
Just for fun I asked a few James' jersey wearing sycophants if they ever heard
of former Cavs stars like Austin Carr, Bingo Smith or Jim Chones. You can guess the results.
Then I went a little easier...Mark Price...Brad Daugherty...Craig Ehlo?
Nope...nothing
I understand the Sixers are mired in mediocrity so hitching your wagon to
James is the easy thing to do. He's as spectacular as he is good.
And when he throws that chalk in the air, it's like the Jonas Brothers came out for an encore.
Scream Philly Scream.
