Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre will return for his 17th NFL season, and will announce it officially at a 4:00 p.m. (et) press conference. General manager Ted Thompson released a statement saying, "Brett Favre informed me this morning that he plans to return for a 17th NFL season. The Packers are excited by his decision and look forward to a successful 2007 campaign."
He started all 16 games for the 14th consecutive season, extending his regular season starts record to 237 straight contests and 257 including the playoffs.
The 37-year-old is one win shy of tying John Elway's record (148) for most wins by a quarterback, six touchdown passes from equalling Dan Marino's mark (420), and 3,862 passing yards away from breaking Marino's all-time record (61,361) .
