Once again chucking sanity and financial security to the wind, the Philadelphia Flyers and Claude Giroux are close to consummating a contract extension which will pay the slick Quebecois center approximately $66 million for eight years.
That's according to multiple sources, from Canada on down to the Daily News --which says both Paul Holmgren and agent Pat Brisson are working hard and completing the terms as we enjoy this holiday.
Giroux is currently under contract through next season, upon which he was scheduled to become a restricted free agent. In the final season of his current deal, he is due $5 million after making $3.5 million this past season.
The 25-year-old captain put together 48 points (13G, 35A) in 48 games last year.
