The Phillies have activated catcher Carlos Ruiz from the 15-day disabled list.
The 32-year-old backstop hasn't played since April 27 because of lower back inflammation. He was hitting .226 with two home runs and nine RBI in 21 games prior to his stint on the DL.
To open a spot for the returning Ruiz, the Phillies placed Brian Schneider on the 15-day DL Thursday with a left hamstring strain. The veteran catcher has appeared in 16 games this season, batting .173 (9-for-52) with two homers and four runs driven in.
