Glens Falls, NY – Today the Adirondack Phantoms, in collaboration with their NHL Affiliate Philadelphia Flyers, proudly announce that Joe Paterson has been hired as the team’s Head Coach.
Paterson returns behind the bench after taking over the coaching duties on an interim basis on December 20th of last season. His record of 25-16-2-6 was near the top in the AHL during that period of time.
“It goes without saying; we were pleased with the results of the hockey team as the season progressed. Joe was able to pass on his passion and knowledge of the game to the players and they responded in a like way with good results.” said John Paddock, Flyers Assistant General Manager.
Phantoms Co-Owner Jim Brooks added “We are excited to have Joe returning. He and the team experienced success during his time last season. Now he will have the opportunity to reproduce that from training camp onward.”
Current Phantoms player Mike Testwuide echoes those sentiments, “It was never a question in my mind whether Joe would return as Head Coach. He brings so many positive attributes and is dedicated to improving every player on the roster. We are fortunate to have someone with such great passion for the game and his players.”
Paterson’s familiarity with the region runs deep. He played for the Adirondack Red Wings for parts of four seasons, was an assistant coach for the Red Wings and currently makes his home in the North Country. “Joe’s a hometown guy who , like us, wants to help AHL hockey work in the Adirondacks and understands the hard work and commitment necessary on and off the ice to make that happen.” said Phantoms Co-Owner Rob Brooks.
“I have a passion for coaching and being able to coach in the place I call home. This is a great place to live and coach an American Hockey League team.” said Joe Paterson.
Also returning behind the bench for the Phantoms is Assistant Coach Riley Cote. This will be Cote’s 2nd year as the Phantoms Assistant Coach after an extensive playing career for the Phantoms and Flyers.
“We considered Riley’s first season of coaching a strong success under sometimes trying circumstances, he was able to compliment Joe and showed he was able to work well with the young players.” said Paddock.
