Temple's Joseph named to Academic All-Mac Team

Temple senior nose tackle Elisha Joseph has been named to the 2010 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Football Team, the MAC announced on Thursday.  The 29-member team of honorees was selected by the schools’ Faculty Athletics Representatives.

A team captain, Joseph was a first-team All-MAC honoree. Taking over at nose tackle last fall, he started all 12 games at his new position. He finished with 44 tackles on the year. A 2010 CoSIDA Academic All-America nominee, Joseph was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Football Team and the Academic All-MAC team in 2009. He received the team’s 2010 George M. Illman Award for Leadership on and off the field.

Joseph has a 3.37 grade-point average in criminal justice.

Earning Honorable Mention honors were senior TE Vaughn Charlton (Landenberg, Pa.), sophomore OL Martin Wallace (New York, N.Y.), and sophomore OL Stephen Yuan (Glenside, Pa.).

Team captain Charlton received the 2010 Owl Club Academic Award. Named a 2010 preseason first-team All-MAC selection at tight end by Phil Steele’s College Football, he was cited on the 2010 Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. Last fall Charlton played in all 12 games with two starts. The human resource management sports a 3.17 GPA.

In his first season as an Owl, Wallace played in all 12 games with two starts at left tackle. The offensive lineman transferred to Temple after two years at Northeastern which discontinued its football program. Wallace sports a 3.34 GPA in criminal justice.

Yuan saw action in all 12 games. The right guard also played on the field goal unit. Cited on the 2010 Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, he has a 3.30 GPA in environmental science.
