The Eagles have signed FB Owen Schmitt and TE/FB Garrett Mills to the 53-man roster.
Mills had been a member of the Eagles practice squad. To make room on the roster, the team placed FB Leonard Weaver (knee) and C Jamaal Jackson (triceps) on the Injured Reserve list. In addition, the Eagles agreed to terms with G Fenuki Tupou on a contract that will land him on the team’s practice squad.
Originally a fifth round draft choice of Seattle in 2008, Schmitt (6-2, 245) played in 30 games (two starts) in two seasons with the Seahawks, notching 12 receptions for 50 yards and one touchdown while adding 21 rushing yards on five attempts. He was released by the team on September 6.
A three-year starter at West Virginia, Schmitt racked up 1,003 career rushing yards on 160 attempts (6.3 average) and also caught 32 passes for 288 yards and two scores. He earned Division III all-conference honors as a freshman at Wisconsin-River Falls before transferring to West Virginia in 2005.
